Co-Motion Klatch: Getting you anywhere

When it comes to getting around, bikes are the best choice. Fun, quick, efficient, affordable, fun… And because there are so many different ways to get around so many different places there are also so many different types of bike! For outright paved speed, road bikes are the best way to get around. For commuting, an ebike is pretty unbeatable. For road touring, you’re probably looking at something with rack and frame mounts for bags and a 35mm-ish tire.

And then there are bikes that take the concept of getting around, having fun, and then push it a little further, like the Co-Motion Klatch. This bike gets you around anywhere. (Well, nearly.)

How does a bike do anywhere? It starts with the handbuilt steel frame. Co-Motion hand welds every single frame from custom exclusive tubesets designed with zonal butting designed for the specific model and size of bike you’re buying.

The Klatch’s frame is built to withstand harsh riding condition while supplying a sublimely comfortable and compliant ride that means you won’t want to stop riding until you get to your destination.

And the frame is outfitted with all the packing and travel essentials, plus more. There are mounting points everywhere, plus S&S couplers so you can take your bike apart and fly anywhere before it takes you anywhere.

Co-Motion also supply the all-important extra touches, like custom frame pumps. Mini pumps and CO2 have their place, but when you’re dealing with big tires in the middle of nowhere it’s a welcome luxury to have a high-volume pump that’s been designed to fit perfectly inside the front triangle. (And that’s paint-matched, of course!)

From there, the build has been optimized for getting far away from the beaten path. Big tires mounted to Astral Cycling’s bulletproof Wanderlust wheelset. Steel bars with a beautiful sweep to enhance the frame’s ride even further. Mechanical disc brakes to avoid irreparable hydraulic failures in the middle of nowhere.

But the crown jewel, the centerpiece, almost literally the heart of this bike is the Gates belt drive Pinion gearbox. Born in the Weissach Porsche design center, the engineers of the C1.12 look at SRAM and Shimano’s marketing and scoff. 489%, 500%, 501%, 550%… frankly it’s embarrassing compared to Pinion’s stock 600% range.

We have to warn people when they first get on one of these bikes because the low gear is so low. You can ride up a tree!

If you’re interested in getting onto a Pinion-driven bike, swing by! We’re Seattle’s Co-Motion dealer and having built at least several of every model in their catalogue, and we love them all!
